I’m winter pruning in Querétaro, Mexico. They hardly leave any sparewood here after cuts, since they say it’s not necessary because they apply copper (with a brush) on the wounds. Is this correct? Thank you so much! Tecla

Hello Tecla, copper is not effective on trunk diseases. After Sodium Arsenate ban (thank god!) that was effective for sympthoms reduction, there are no actual chemical active ingredients that is good to cure\protect from trunk diseases.

Actually there is a use of thricoderma spp (atroviride, asperellum, gamsii) on wound cuts. It’s a kind of mechanical protection (film) that can be applied in the wounds.

I suggest you a quick review on scientific literature about that, to understand well this topic.
