    In this video a cane is cut but the crown buds are removed too. Could you explain why this decision was made? Normally we should cut one-year-old canes leaving the crown buds right? Would it be wrong in this case to leave them?

    Hi, actually in this video, it would have been necessary to leave a spare wood above the shoot.

    Between the shoots 1 and 2 , the distance (internode) is very small. If we would cut just below the shoot 2 the distance would be very short (red line). So he choosed to remove the second shoot (shoot 2) developed on last year’s spur (the higher one), removing the crown buds.

    This is necessary because, as you know, the spare wood must dry out. If the crown buds remained, this could not happen.

    Dessiccation cone will be developed over the previous diagphram (green line) and preserve the shoot 1, the future trunk….
