Hi Ard,
You are right, cutting back to 2 buds gives you the same problem next year. But if you can cut back to a good bud let’s say 15 – 20 cm below the wire, this bud will give a shoot with lower internodiën at the base. So you can use in the next year the basal bud and first bud for the two sapflow exits or the first and second bud. Depends on the pushing of the buds in spring. One way or another, you will lose a year.
